Nearly 100 business people in Taunton town centre turned out
recently at a special presentation event, to hear about ambitious
plans for a Business Improvement District (BID).
Details of a £2 million range of exciting proposals for the town
centre, including a dedicated police team and major events, were
spelled out to the audience at the Brewhouse Theatre, by Lucy Ball,
Taunton Town Centre manager.
“We wanted to really detail exactly what the BID involves and,
judging by the response we had, many people are now very
enthusiastic about what this could do for their businesses and
trading environment,” said Lucy Ball.
The Brewhouse event kicked off with a special drinks reception for
BID Champions, business people in the town who are actively
supporting and promoting the campaign.

Kevin McCarthy, Director and General Manager of the Castle Hotel and
also a Director of the Taunton Town Centre Company, then welcomed
the audience and introduced Lucy Ball.
She gave a thorough breakdown of a proposed £2 million draft Action
Plan for the BID, including varied projects aiming to make Taunton
safer, cleaner and more vibrant (see details on this page).
The evening ended with a light buffet and drinks as members of the
audience raised issues and discussed aspects of the BID.
“The event went very well and we also had the chance to thank the
Champions who have taken such an active part in the BID campaign and
really thrown their weight behind it,” said Lucy Ball.
