A Business Improvement District (BID) for Taunton is to be welcomed
and encouraged.
That’s the opinion of Carl Budden, Somerset Head of Operations for
the South West of England Regional Development Agency (RDA).
The Agency, established by government to promote the long-term
economic success of the region, awarded the Taunton BID campaign
£70,000.
“Becoming a BID would help raise the town’s profile, as well as
improve its environment and image,” said Carl Budden. “We see BIDs
as being of strategic value, very much part of the urban renaissance
agenda across the region’s main cities and towns.”.

The Agency has supported the Plymouth and Bristol Broadmead BIDs,
for example, where it has added value to major developments going on
in the cities – just as Taunton BID would complement the town’s
large regeneration projects, he believes.
“The BID would also give the business community a greater stake in
the town centre. It’s a partnership where the private sector is
engaged and included in a practical and effective way,” he said.
