The countdown to Taunton town centre becoming a Business
Improvement District (BID) has begun.
An action plan is being drawn up, special presentations
are being planned, and town centre businesses now have just a few
months before voting on becoming a BID.
“We’re all set to really go for it,” said town centre manager Lucy
Ball, whose campaign has won high praise from Pricewaterhouse
Coopers, which is taking the BID scheme forward around the country.
“We’re drawing up the draft BID action plan right now and we hope
town centre businesses will throw their full weight behind it.

“We believe absolutely this is the best way forward for Taunton, in
the face of heavy competition from our bigger, revitalised
neighbours.”
Invitations will be going out shortly to a special presentation next
month at the Brewhouse theatre, for town centre business people to
hear about and comment on the draft action plan.
“The pace is hotting up now before the ballot papers go out in June,
but everyone will be kept thoroughly informed along the way,” said
Lucy Ball.
BIDs are a government initiative to encourage businesses to
regenerate their trading environments in ways they choose
themselves, by paying a small levy and working together.
