Mark Petrich,
Store Manager, Sainsbury’s in Taunton town centre:
“I support the BID. Having been a resident in Taunton most my life,
and been here at Sainsbury’s for five years, I see the potential for
all businesses to work as one, to drive improvements and get more
customers.
At the end of the day that’s what it’s all about, increasing
footfall and driving the business forward. And it’s always better to
do that as a unified group than as one individual.”
Lisa
Snowdon-Carr, partner of Roots Fabulous West Country Food and chair
of Bath Place Traders Association:
“I hadn’t thought I would want to get involved as I haven’t been
here very long, but I’ve learned through the Traders Association
that by getting involved I can make a contribution.
“I see the BID as similar but on a grander scale – we have many
voices but face the same issues and if we join together, put in the
energy and effort, we have a stronger voice and the rewards are
great.”.
Eleanor
Graham, a director of Furniture Studio in Magdalene Street,
believes the BID would be good for Taunton retailers.
“Taunton has a lot to offer and I’m sure this is the way to go for
the town centre.
“We are an independent furniture retailer and for businesses to get
together to try and motivate people to come and shop here, can
really help revitalise Taunton.”

Will
Shakespeare, owner of Shakespeare Glass in Riverside Place:
“The idea that our business rates go to central government and are
then divided up, is a travesty of justice.
Our destiny lies in our own hands and with the BID, any say we can
have to improve Taunton as a whole, is good for all of us.”
Colin
Barrell, franchise owner of McDonalds Taunton in East Street
believes the BID is a great opportunity for Taunton to promote
itself as the favourite destination for miles around to shop, to do
business and to be entertained.
“I’ve been part of various promotions over the years, but it has
always been the same few who get involved. BID will involve everyone
within its boundaries and so will be fair and inclusive.
I believe this is a chance to vote for something which will benefit
us all and give us the ability to compete with other prominent
centres in the South West.”
