Home
Grown and Home Made
In 1919, just after the First World
War, WI Markets were started to
provide places where surplus homemade
and home grown produce could be sold
to the general public. In 2004, the
name was changed to Country Markets
Ltd and they continue to trade as
before but are still referred by
locals as the WI Market.
Today,
the Country Markets still continue as true
cooperatives where volunteers take
turns in running, setting up, selling
and cashing up. The market itself is
non-profit making. A small commission
is taken to cover overheads while the
remaining income goes to the producer.
Taunton's Country Market is situated in one of Taunton’s
most attractive and historic street s–
Bath Place. The market provides plenty
of "home-made" cooking and offers a
wide range of products including Baked
Goods, Preserves, Fresh Produce (in
Season), Plants, Flowers and Craft
Items. Discover cakes, pies, cookies,
jams, marmalades, chutneys and much,
much more. All hand made by the
markets producers.
The Country Market attracts many regular
customers and presents a friendly
venue every Wednesday, Friday and
Saturday 8.00am-2.00pm in
Bath Place just off the High Street. |
