The West Circuit - Corporation Street and Castle Green to The Market House

As another small circuit of the town centre, the West Circuit is one of the quieter pedestrian areas and expands to the rear of North Street and High Street (Bath Place), leading to the bus station and Castle Green.

With a multitude of quality eating and drinking places in one area you can choose to sit outside or in, inviting all families and shoppers alike throughout the day and night. With the internationally known Castle Hotel & Restaurant next door to Somerset County Museum, the Taunton Castle Grounds, Goodland Gardens and the old Municipal Buildings, this picturesque area is not just great for eating out but is also a great place for taking a breather. Whether under the glade of a tree or on a bench just sitting and watching the world go by we are sure that you will love this circuit of Taunton Town Centre.

  • Cafes and Cafe Restaurants -  There are only a handful of cafe's and cafe restaurants and these can be found mainly on Castle Green and adjacent to the Castle Green archway. Most public houses also serve coffee in these areas such as Brazz and Clarks Tap.
  • Pubs and Pub Grub - The public houses that provide ale and or food are mainly found on Corporation Street and Castle Green. The Moat House, The Winchester Arms and The Old Library are well worth a visit and most providing outdoor seating. In the evening these public houses mainly stop serving food and only serve drink.
  • Sandwich Bars & Takeaways - The cafes already mentioned serve sandwiches and light meals but if you are on the move and need a takeaway then you'll find a variety of businesses that serve freshly made goods throughout the West Circuit. Bath Place, which is accessible from the High Street and Corporation Street, is a great place to start and you will find more as you walk towards the High Street.
  • Restaurants - The West Circuit offers a small handful of restaurants and unlike most restaurants you will find these open day and night. The Castle Hotel restaurant has a reputation worldwide and next door at Brazz you can find a great mix of restaurant and bar. Corporation Street also offers a great Indian restaurant and has a Taxi rank near by for those that like to have a drink or two.
