In 1919, just after the First World War, WI Markets were started to provide places where surplus homemade and home grown produce could be sold to the general public. In 2004, the name was changed to Country Markets Ltd and they continue to trade as before but are still referred to by locals as the WI Market.
Today, the Country Markets continue as true cooperatives where volunteers take turns in running, setting up, selling and cashing up. The market itself is non-profit making. Taunton's Country Market is situated in historic Bath Place.
The market provides plenty of "home-made" produce and offers a wide range of products including Baked Goods, Preserves, Fresh Produce (in Season), Plants, Flowers and Craft Items. Discover cakes, pies, cookies, jams, marmalades, chutneys and much, much more. All hand made by the markets producers. The Country Market attracts many regular customers and presents a friendly venue every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday 8.00am-2.00pm in Bath Place just off the High Street.

The Blackdown Hills Market makes regular visits to Taunton. The Saturday Market can be found in the vicinity of The Market House on Fore Street. Run by the Blackdown Hills Association, established in the early 1980's, the market has built up a loyal following in Taunton and visits one Saturday a month between March and December.
