Taunton's annual Christmas Festival has grown to become the biggest free community event in the town.
Organised by Taunton Town Centre Company, through Taunton Business Improvement District (BID), the annual event takes place on a Sunday during November. The 2011 Christmas Festival launch event took place on Sunday 20 November.
The 2011 event was sponsored by Mecca Taunton and by local businesses within the BID area contributing towards the celebrations through an annual charge made by the BID and by commercial advertising.
The Christmas Festival offers local families and visitors a great day out in celebration of the county town and for event sponsors, a unique opportunity to promote business in a fun and effective campaign to reach thousands of local people.

Using music, lighting and the backdrop of a spectacular fireworks display, the Heliosphere creates the illusion of flying. The impossible becomes possible. Spiraling and spinning and seemingly weightless, an acrobat suspended beneath a helium balloon explores the uncharted space between street level and rooftops.
Exeter based performing arts company, The Dream Engine, was commissioned to deliver the performance to thousands of onlookers attending the town's annual Christmas lights celebrations. You can view a video of the performance here.
Businesses across Taunton showed great generosity, preparing the ground for the 2010 Christmas shopping season. The BID Steering Group agreed to provide seed corn funding in support of the annual switch on event which was matched in turn by commercial sponsorship.
